August Throwback: How Was Your Weekend?

As a 9-5 corporate girly, weekends are one of the days I look forward to. ALWAYS. I had a blast this month of August 2024. I spent most of my weekends with my loved ones. Let me share with you how my August weekends went.

Week 1 – Sister’s Wedding

Got to witness my elder sister’s wedding at Tamugan Davao City. They’ve been together for over a decade but I still see the pure love in their eyes especially when they face each other and doing the ring exchange. I’m so grateful for my sister’s love life. They’re also blessed with two sons – both are kind, responsible, and respectful.

We also spent some time at the river. The water is cold and very relaxing!

When you have an opportunity to go to places with cold water, such as the river or the sea, you better soak your whole body. Swimming in cold water improves circulation, reduces stress, and improves mood—there are lots of benefits to it!

Week 2 – Birthday Celebration

My birthdate falls on a Thursday that week, so I spent the time working. Big thanks to my workmates for buying me cake, ice cream, and drinks. My brother cooks a delicious carbonara and fried chicken. My boss also gave me a cash gift!

I filed a leave on Friday and we had dinner with my sister and my man at Hearsay. It was my first experience at the place and I finally tasted a quality steak. We got to experience their fine wine and some cocktails. The three of us had a great evening. Overall, it was an exceptional dining experience!

Coastal Road – Ironman

My man and I spent the Saturday night at Coastal Road during an Ironman event, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience! We immersed ourselves in bustling people that created a vibrant and festive atmosphere. We sang along with the band and it was my first time drinking a dragon fruit shake. We found ourselves laughing and enjoying each other’s company. The blend of great food, lively music, and a cheerful crowd made for a truly memorable night.

Week 3 – A road trip with Family

On a Sunday afternoon, my family was stressed with something at home. Good thing my eldest sister contacted us for a road trip because she wants her kids to experience the Kadayawan festival before it ends. We were all so excited! Then my man drove to Tamugan to pick up my other sister and the kids. We first hit the coastal road for the sea breeze. The breeze filled the car as we rode along which felt like a mini-adventure.

As the evening approached, we headed to Beholden Coffee for dinner. The place is just right on the edge with the mangroves and a sea view. It was a delightful and relaxing experience.

After dinner, we made our way to the Hilltop to catch some city lights. Once you’re at the top, the view is absolutely amazing! We stood there for a moment, took photos, and ate some street food. I’ll always cherish how we sang along the "Mapa" by SB19 in the car on our way back home.

'Wag mag-alala

Ipikit ang 'yong mata, ta'na

Pahinga muna, ako na'ng bahala

Labis pa sa labis ang 'yong nagawa

Ma, Pa, pahinga muna

Ako na'

It was one of those perfect family road trip where everything just fell into place. The sea, the mangroves, the city lights, the music—it all combined into a memory that we’ll cherish for years to come.

Hope you enjoyed your weekend too! Feel free to share your experiences in the comment below.

P.S. Special thanks to my man for picking up the car at 4 PM and not getting home until 3 AM. He went above and beyond, driving my family from Toril to Mintal, then to Tamugan, and back to Toril. We truly appreciate all the effort!

Also, all the best for my eldest sister. Thank you for covering the car rental that night. All the love! xx P.P.S. I almost forget to share. I spent my Week 4 having some groceries with my eldest sister at SNR. You wouldn’t guess our total bill! LOL. It was for her pizza store actually (Yanong’s Pizza) READ: Bringing Quality Pizza to Southern Davao: The Yanong's Pizza Story
