Local Picks this Weekend in Toril, Davao City

No plans yet this weekend? Your weekdays must have been tiring, stressful, or maybe just plain boring.

If that’s the case, you may want to try going to places. I bet you haven’t been to some of the places we’ve visited. Or maybe you just don’t know where to start. Don’t worry, I got you!

My sister once had a visitor– most are already seniors. We took time looking for a place that wasn’t too crowded, was relaxing, and just right for them. You know how most places get crowded on weekends. Good thing they found Darrio Bistro. They loved the experience and found the place truly relaxing.

We went back because they have an exclusive place that can accommodate up to 15 people (maybe even 20!) Despite the number of customers, you can still enjoy quality time with your family in a private room.

There were 12 of us, and we stayed from 5 PM to 9 PM. The cost was ₱5,500—with ₱4,000 consumable for food. Plus, there’s a karaoke too!

They are located at Bayabas-Eden Road.

We truly enjoyed the dinner because we dined on the balcony area of the room, and just enjoyed the cool breeze of the air at night. The place is cozy and relaxing, with a strong nature vibe. Thanks to its open-air setting.

Whenever the kids visit us, we always plan for an early morning activity. Usually, we go walking at 5 AM along the coastal road. But one time, we felt like having a cup of coffee or taking a deep in the sea that early. Sipping coffee in cold early morning facing the sea, it’s such a chef’s kiss experience. I’ll never get tired of it!

Our go-to? Simple, affordable, and perfect for a spontaneous morning plan— Vales Beach Resort Complex. No need to worry about food either, since there are plenty of food options along the way. We always grab some bibingka on the ride there.

I know this place has been part of many childhood core memories for those who grew up in Toril. It’s a go-to spot for any kind of celebration, big or small—team buildings, students just wanting to have fun, or anyone who simply wants to swim.

If you’re looking to grab some great pizza, lasagna, or snacks, head over to Yanong’s Pizza, located in Lubogan near the Barangay Hall. It’s our go-to spot for lunch, dinner, or after a long ride. Yes, it’s my personal comfort food! And the best part? They also serve rice meals.

They offer in-house delivery, are available on Grab and foodpanda, and of course, you can dine in too.

If you want to experience one of the most aesthetic and cozy places in Toril. Visit Café Basilico – an Italian café and restaurant. They offer a wide variety of food and coffee, and the place is beautiful, conveniently located near the highway from the crossing going to Lubogan.

I remember my friend Jannet who used to visit this cafe often and shared her experiences on Dutch Girl Diaries. She’s now resting in God’s hand – she bravely fought cancer. I love you sis. 🫶

Thank you for reading. Your support means so much to me. I hope to write more soon!

Have a relaxing and lovely weekend! xoxo

How We Spent the First 15 Days of January 2026 (and the Fitness Items We’re Loving)

The first fifteen days of January 2026 felt slower than most days of 2025. We did so much movement, spent a lot of time with mom, my sis, and my man, and I’m happy with how the year started.  If I had to describe this month in one word, it would be “privileged”. My sister and I are both on a work-from-home setup. That means we don’t necessarily spend hours getting ready, commuting, or sitting in traffic, and that extra time gives us room to do more than just work. Because of that, we have the opportunity to do other things like more movement. So, we spent most of our time working out and running.  I officially started working on January 3. Then, on January 7, I set a small personal goal of a minimum 50 squats daily—whether it was a fitness day, a workday, or a rest day. Looking back, here’s how the first fifteen days of January went: January 1 (Thursday) - New Year Celebration January 2 (Friday) - Bed rot, movies, and a dog bath at the beach.  January 3 (Saturday)...
